On 27th December, 1914, the 1st Northamptonshire battalion of 2 Brigade, 1st Division, moved into trenches at Givenchy near La Bassée where they remained until relieved on 2nd January, 1915. The battalion diary entries for this period all record that all was quiet. Not quiet enough however for Alfred Hoare who was killed on 31st December. |
